LASIK (Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis) is the most commonly performed procedure for vision correction in the United States. Many patients and physicians prefer this procedure because patients quickly gain excellent vision with very little discomfort during and following the procedure.
On entering the operating room, the patient lies down in a comfortable chair. The eyes are numbed with drops. No injection or stitches are used. Although the procedure is essentially painless, patients may feel a slight pressure sensation at times.
An instrument called a microkeratome is used to create a thin, circular flap in the cornea. The vision may darken temporarily during the creation of the flap. This is normal. Sight returns rapidly after this step. The surgeon folds the flap back out of the way and precisely removes corneal tissue underneath using a cool laser.
When the cornea is reshaped the right way, the cornea can better focus light rays into the eye providing clearer vision. The flap is then laid back in place. Because the flap is self-sealing, there is no need for stitches or surgical glue.
The procedure takes approximately ten minutes overall. Both eyes are generally done at the same visit. Vision is noticeably better immediately following the procedure.
We pride ourselves on providing the latest technology in laser vision correction combined with the knowledge and skills of experienced refractive surgeons.
Eye Specialists offers customized LASIK by using the VISX Star S4 CustomVue technology to measure the unique visual characteristics of your eyes. CustomVue provides an additional level of precise data about your vision requirements using wavefront technology.
A device called a wavefront analyzer creates a map of your eye that is unique to you in the same way that your fingerprint is unique to you. It provides a detailed diagram of your vision that allows us to provide you with truly personalized vision correction.
Several types of visual imperfections that affect your vision exist within the eye. Until now, only nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism could be measured and treated. However, these aberrations do not account for all potential vision imperfections.
Customized LASIK may help to correct these other imperfections that in the past could not be adequately corrected with glasses, contacts, or conventional LASIK treatments.
We believe that the gift of sight should be available to everyone. If you have been putting off having LASIK due to budget constraints, we can help.
